On Thursday 27 July from 1500 – 1700 EET, the International Bar Association (IBA) Family Law Committee and the Ukrainian Bar Association’s (UBA) Committee on Civil, Family and Inheritance Law will co-host a webinar examining recent case law regarding the return of children to Ukraine under the Hague Convention on International Abduction of Children of 25 October 1980. The discussion will be held in English with Ukrainian translation.
Ahead of the event, Elisabeth H Loukas, Esq, Chair of the IBA Family Law Committee, remarked: ‘This webinar takes on the crosshairs where the innocence of children and sanctity of families, the power struggles and inhumanity of war, and the importance of the rule of law intersect.
Titled The War in Ukraine and 1980 Hague Child Abduction Convention: to return or not to return? That is the question, the panellists will examine issues of national legislation and practice in the context of the ongoing conflict with Russia. Family law experts from a range of jurisdictions – including Canada, Germany, Italy, Poland, the United Kingdom and the United States – will provide examples of relevant case law.
Moderating the discussion and issuing opening remarks will be Ms Loukas and Oleksandr Gubin, Council Member of the UBA Committee on Civil, Family and Inheritance Law.
