According to the recently released annual ranking by the leading arbitration journal Global Arbitration Review – The GAR 100 (11th Edition). The Guide to Specialist International Arbitration Practices 2018 – Aequo has been listed among the world’s top international arbitration law firms.
The firm’s international arbitration group is led by counsel Pavlo Byelousov and includes managing partner Denis Lysenko and partner Oleksandr Mamunya. The firm has acted in a solid number of arbitrations, including disputes at the ICC, LCIA, SCC, UNCITRAL and American Arbitration Association, as well as the International Commercial Arbitration Courts at the Russian and Ukrainian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
According to the GAR 100 “Aequo has gained a name for itself as a reliable go-to Ukrainian firm for high-value oil and gas disputes”.
The firm acts in media disputes too. In 2016, it helped US magazine publisher Forbes win an ICDR arbitration against its local Ukrainian licensee UMH. The firm convinced the tribunal that UMH’s censorship and interference with Forbes’ editorial independence gave valid grounds to terminate a licence agreement for the Ukrainian edition of the magazine.
Pavlo Byelousov, Head of Aequo’s International Arbitration group, commented: “We are delighted to have been ranked in GAR 100, which reflects the high-profile successes we have been achieving for our clients.”
The GAR 100 is a guide to specialist law firms worldwide ‘approved’ by the research for international arbitration, offering extensive qualitative analysis of arbitration practices around the world.
